Thursday: Ode to Nordstrom, JCrew

Dear Nordstrom:

I was bursting with excitement to visit you on the brink of your half-yearly sale for women and children. I'm always anxious to browse your shoe racks, ogle your sale bags and hunt for discounted treasures.

The truth is I jumped the gun and spent half the morning on your Web site (bravo, by the way! Your site is solid gold). I knew if I didn't sweep up those red plaid pumps I'd be kicking myself.

Last night Bethany and I spent hours in your shoe racks. She walked away with the most fabulous distressed silver pumps I've ever laid eyes on. But honestly, we were more than a little disappointed with your selection. Was that the best you could muster?

Then we wandered to your welcoming display of purses. I spotted a multi-hued, perfectly sized L.A.M.B. bag and was overcome with emotion. I gingerly lifted it from the display, caressed it's supple leather and fell HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE. I urgently phoned Mr. Wickstrom to insist he sell the car and FAST; I MUST have that bag
(Even though I know I'm dreaming, I hope he hurries! Heavens knows the half-yearly sale is adored by many a stylish girl and at half price, the bag is one HOTTTT commodity.)

Anyway, we wandered your departments, but you weren't wowing us so we took a left turn into the "yah-right-you-know-you-can't-afford-anything-here" section.

That's when a mustard yellow lady coat caught my eye. Upon further i
nspection I noticed a divine amethyst sweater hanging nearby. I grabbed the sweater, tucked it beneath the jacket and stood back to admire the symphony of color.

Knowing both items were budget busters, I logged the idea in my brain files and returned home, empty-handed.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is thank you. You've inspired me once again.

Love,

Becky

P.S. But your half-yearly sale did kinda suck. Can you please work on that?!

Mustard/Amethyst Symphony (aka Nordstrom, Thanks!)

- Cotton a-line amethyst dress
- Mustard yellow tank

- Gold-tone cluster heart pendant
- Amethyst drop earrings

- Brown knee-length boots

P.S.
Dear JCrew,

I see you've been inspired by Paris. Your selection of women's clothing this Fall is simply outstanding. I'm still a tad perplexed about your shoe pricing (who do you think you are -- Marc Jacobs?!). Nonetheless, my Christmas list will be filled with your wares.

Your men's section, however, is obviously styled after a slightly less exotic source. I hope you paid my father hearty royalties for creeping around in his bushes and making style note
s. Your distressed flannel shirts and pocket tees are Greg Fowles originals. But you really should add pork chop sideburns and mustaches to your models to fully complete this look.

xoxo,

Becky

P.S. Thank you for the lovely purple dress upon which I receive oodles of compliments. I just wish you didn't sell it to everyone on the ENTIRE PLANET. I mean it's lovely, but seriously? Did you think I wanted to be a purple dress-wearing clone? I'll help you out there: the answer is NO!

(In case you live under a rock and haven't seen it, here's a full-length shot of the dress):

Amen to the Nordstrom half yearly being not up to par! I didn't find ANY shoes last night. I did find a couple cute sweaters... but seriously - it was lacking!
